The ministry said it was found that Zeng had signed an espionage deal with the US and received training before returning to China.
The ministry said the alleged agent had promised Zeng’s family a large sum of money and immigration to the US in exchange for information.
It said that after his return to China, Zeng had provided “key” intelligence on several occasions, and had also funded the effort.
According to the statement, coercive measures have been taken against Zeng, which usually means detention.
