Port city Chittagong has the second terrestrial television station of the country. While replying a question at parliament, raised by a lawmaker from Chittagong information minister informed that his government has decided to extend telecast hour of Chittagong television station, required budget is already allocated. There is a demand from local people there. This station mainly telecast locally produced programs. The state minister for information affairs also informed that his government is planning to setup another local terrestrial television station at divisional headquarter Khulna.
Chittagong television station was established in the nineties when present information minister’s political rival was in power. This local station is run by Bangladesh Television and called Chittagong centre of Bangladesh television. In the era of privately owned satellite television stations Bangladesh Television is failing to compete with them. But successive governments have tried to patronize cultural activities by Bangladesh television.
