Now only one week is left for the holy month of Ramadan to begin. Buyers are busy purchasing essential items for the fast. However, everything is expensive in the market.

The prices of chicken have increased. Apart from this, the prices of sugar and gram have also increased. Although the prices of vegetables were a little low even a week ago, now the prices of vegetables used in Iftar have started increasing. Meanwhile, one and two liter bottles of the newly priced soybean oil are yet to reach the market. As a result, consumers have to buy soybean oil at a higher price than the fixed rate.

After talking to the concerned persons in Moulvibazar, Rahmatganj, Palashi, New Market Kitchen Market, Hatirpool and Kathalbagan of the capital, it was found that the price of sugar has increased by about 2 taka in wholesale and by 5 taka in retail. After a fire at a sugar warehouse in Chattogram, the price of sugar increased to Tk 145-150 per kg in the retail market. However, traders believe that this will not cause a huge shortage of sugar in the market.
