Complications have arisen over the last rites of a ‘Muslim convert’ Hindu student who died after being hit by a train in Dhaka.
Police have identified the student as 20-year-old Abdullah Saeed, born Jewel Sheel, a resident of Chakaria in Cox’s Bazar.
He studied at the Government Science College and was waiting for the results of the Higher Secondary Certificate examination. The student used to live in the hostel located at Tejgaon.
He was crossing the tracks near Tejgaon railway station when one of the two passing trains hit him just before noon on Wednesday.
Tejgaon police station chief Apurba Hasan said he was taken to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
Apoorba cited the student’s classmates as saying that his name was mentioned as Jewel Sheel in public examination records, but he took the name Abdullah Saeed after he converted to Islam in 2022.
