Concerns increased over destructive attacks and arson during Bangladesh blockade: Police officer said

The BNP and the police are issuing counter statements regarding those responsible for the arson attacks. Police say that BNP workers are leaders who are creating an atmosphere through violent activities like destructive attacks and arson. Meanwhile, senior BNP general secretary Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, who is currently in hiding, claimed in a virtual press conference that government men are setting buses on fire.

However, the police claimed to have identified the people involved in the surreptitious attack and arson. Apart from this, the DMP also claimed to have arrested 12 opposition activists red-handed while setting a bus on fire.

Sources say that BNP had been organizing peaceful activities for more than a year. However, following the events of 28 October the government took a “tough” stance to suppress the agitation by opposition parties. BNP workers, including central and local leaders, have gone into hiding fearing mass arrests. In such a situation, the opposition is not able to hold rallies and other open programs.
