Cop suspended over alleged cash exchange at Dhaka court

A police officer was suspended today over allegations of taking money from a lawyer inside the lockup at the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner (Media) NM Nasiruddin said due to the initial verification of the allegation and evidence in the video, the accused police officer, Mir Mosharraf Hossain, was suspended as an immediate measure.

Talking to The Daily Star tonight he said that further necessary action will be taken after an inquiry against him.

According to court sources, content creator RS Fahim Chowdhury was produced before the Dhaka CMM Court to be shown arrested  in an attempted murder case filed with Mohammadpur Police Station linked to the July uprising.

After the hearing, while he was being taken to the lockup of the CMM Court, a lawyer was seen giving money to a police constable on duty.

Meanwhile, a video of the incident was circulating on social media.

The police constable was identified as Mir Mosharraf Hossain.

He claimed before the media that the lawyer had tried to force money on him so that he would deliver food to the accused.

However, the identity of the lawyer involved in the incident could not be immediately confirmed.
