The Education Minister, Nurul Islam Nahid, on Monday told the Jatiya Sangsad that corruption and irregularities had been deep-rooted in the education sector for long and the government was fighting to free the sector from the lingering scourge.
Replying to a question from Bangladesh Nationalist Party lawmaker Joynal Abdin during the question-answer session, the minister, however, claimed that corruption in the education sector has been reduced to a great extent through continuous efforts taken by his ministry.
‘From the very beginning of this government, we are working hard to root out corruption, irregularities and indiscipline that became deep-rooted for a long time,’ Nahid said.
Quoting a report of the Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB), Nahid said that corruption in the education ministry had been reduced to 15 per cent from 29 per cent.
He also said that five vigilance teams of the directorate of education led by five directors remained active in five days of the week to monitor the situation and take action to reduce the vice.
