Mr. Prannath, Irfan’s counsel, said the judge passed the order treating Irfan as an absconder and fixed March 6 for hearing the witnesses.

“My client will surrender in court and seek bail as soon as he recovers,” he said.

Irfan’s bodyguard Zahidul Mollah, driver Mizanur Rehman, Haji Salim’s protocol officer AB Siddiqui Deepu and Qazi Ripon were also accused in the case.

Irfan used to be the councilor of ward number 30 of Dhaka South City Corporation. After he was arrested, the Local Government Division temporarily suspended him.

On October 24, 2020, Lieutenant Mohammad Wasif Ahmed Khan, a naval officer, in a case registered with the Dhanmandi police, accused Irfan and his associates of assaulting him.
