If one travels along the Bayazid-Fauzdarhat link road in Chattogram city, a road opposite Asian Women’s University enters the hills. That road marks the beginning of Jungle Salimpur. This area is mainly divided into two parts – Chinnomul and Alinagar.
According to the data of the district administration, there is 3100 acres of special land there. Various land grabbers and criminal groups have long controlled the area.
On 9 March, law enforcement agencies took control of Jungle Salimpur.
About 3,200 members of the army, RAB, police and BGB took part in the joint operation that helped authorities take control of the area. Previous attempts by law enforcement agencies to take control had failed, and police and officials were attacked during the operation.
Following the joint operation, the government announced plans to set up two training centers for police and RAB in the area. As part of that initiative, RAB began construction of a camp in Alinagar. Now the allegation is that criminals demolished that camp last night.
Although 22 people were arrested during a joint operation conducted on March 9, several suspected criminals – including Yasin Bahini chief Mohammad Yasin, Rokone Bahini chief Rokone Uddin, Mashiur Rahman, Nurul Haq Bhandari, Ghazi Sadek and Golam Ghafoor – remain fugitives.
Local residents said that before the operation, the Chinnomul area of Jungle Salimpur was under the control of Rokon, while the Alinagar area was under the control of Yasin.
