Catalonia’s Supreme Court said on Tuesday that former Barcelona and Brazil defender Dani Alves is under investigation for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman in a Spanish nightclub last month.
Alves denies any wrongdoing.
A Barcelona court said in a statement that it had “opened proceedings for an alleged crime of sexual assault as a result of a complaint filed by a woman for incidents that allegedly took place in a Barcelona nightclub last month.”
The statement did not specifically name Alves but a court spokeswoman confirmed to Reuters that he was the subject of the complaint. He said the matter is being investigated but the court has no further information.
