In addition, members of the Armed Forces, East Pakistan Rifles (EPR), Police, Mukti Bahini, Government of Bangladesh in Exile (Mujibnagar Government) and its recognized forces, Naval Commandos, Kilo Force and Ansar will also be recognized as Bir Muktijodha.
Furthermore, all women (Birangona) who were victims of atrocities by the occupying Pakistani forces and their collaborators will be recognized as freedom fighters.
Those who served in field hospitals during the liberation war and provided medical care to injured freedom fighters – including physicians, nurses and medical assistants – will also be recognized as freedom fighters.
For the first time, the category ‘Muktijuddher Shohojogi’ has been introduced in the new definition.
It states that individuals who lived in the country or abroad between March 26 and December 16, 1971 and contributed directly to inspiring freedom fighters, organizing war efforts, shaping global public opinion, securing diplomatic support and strengthening psychological resistance in favor of the independence of Bangladesh will be recognized as ‘Muktijuddar Shohojogi’.
