The voting in the two-day election for the executive committee of the Dhaka Bar Association for the 2026–2027 term began this morning.
“Today, voting started at 9:00am and will continue until 5:00pm, with a one-hour break from 1:00pm to 2:00pm. Voting will be held following the same schedule tomorrow as well,” Chief Election Commissioner Md Bourhan Uddin told The Daily Star.
“A total of 20,785 voters are eligible to cast their votes in the polls, where 52 candidates are contesting,” he said.
According to bar sources, pro-BNP lawyers from the Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Oikya Panel are contesting under the Blue Panel, while Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and its allied-backed candidates are contesting under the Green Panel for a total of 23 posts.
Among others, Anwar Zahid Bhuiyan is contesting for the post of president and Mohammad Abul Kalam Khan for general secretary from the Blue Panel. From the Green Panel, SM Kamal Uddin is contesting for the post of president and Abu Bakker Siddique for general secretary.
