Dhaka North City Corporation to start registration of births, deaths in wards in early February

Zobaidur said the signatures of both a ward councillor, who will act as registrar, and the ward secretary, the assistant registrar, are required to register births, but the 18 new DNCC wards are yet to get secretaries. As soon as he is appointed, the campaign will start in all 54 wards.

“The recruitment will be completed by the third week of January. We will start the registration process in the wards in the last week of January or the first week of February.”

At present, the registration is done in six of the 10 zonal offices of the Municipal Corporation.

Citizens have been complaining of difficulties in obtaining birth and death certificates for a long time. Councilors are demanding to take this program to their office, saying that if this service is done at the ward level, the problem will be less.
