An independent candidate from Rangpur-2 constituency (Badarganj-Taraganj) has alleged irregularities in ballot papers on the night before the 12th national election.

However, he claimed to remain in the election race due to his loyalty to Awami League chairperson Sheikh Hasina.

Biswanath Sarkar alias Bitu is the joint general secretary of the Central Committee of Bangladesh Krishak League, an affiliate of the ruling Awami League.

In the elections, he managed to secure 61,583 votes, while ruling party candidate Ahsanul Haq emerged victorious by securing 81,599 votes.
