Nazneen Anwar, president of Mohila Awami League’s Rangamati unit and daughter of former reserved seat MP Feroza Begum Chinu, had filed a case against Fazle Elahi in June last year.

She was running restaurant business in Rangamati DC Park by taking land on lease from some other person. Allegedly a section of people consumed alcohol in the restaurant, so the district administration suspended the lease, triggering a controversy.

Fazle Elahi reported this and faced trial. However, he was released on bail a day after his arrest. Speaking to Prothom Alo, journalist Fazle Elahi said, he now fears the repercussions of publishing authentic news in many aspects.

In September last year, Nazneen Anwar had also filed a case against six journalists who wrote on this matter on the social media platform Facebook.

One of the accused is Bayazid Ahmed, a special correspondent with Deepto TV, a Dhaka-based private television channel. He said that he has been a victim of misuse of the Digital Security Act.
