Despite the fact that the Bangladesh government has expanded social protection schemes over the past decade, many challenges faced by people with disabilities are yet to be met.
The key paper highlighted the effective implementation of the Disabilities Act and the National Action Plan as the key to ensuring an inclusive, accessible, sustainable and equitable Bangladesh.
Zuena Aziz, Principal Coordinator of SDG Affairs in the Prime Minister’s Office, said the government has included disability inclusion in its Eighth Five Year Plan and National Social Security Strategy.
“The government is making best efforts to ensure that people with disabilities are not left behind and are considered under the progressive development plan of the country,” he said.
Amrita Regina Rosario, Convener of Disability Alliance on SDG Bangladesh and Country Director of Sightsavers also spoke at the event.
