MD Mofazzal Hussain, dean of the Faculty of Science, said relying only on MCQ tests raises concerns about the quality and security of the exams. According to him, written examinations reduce the chances of cheating or seeking outside help.
In the meeting, he proposed to make the remaining four subjects optional while keeping Physics and Chemistry compulsory.
MD Mofazzal Hussain said that under the current system, students often mistakenly answer optional subjects instead of the specified third compulsory subject, leading to thousands of answer sheets getting canceled every year.
MD Abul Kalam Sarkar, acting dean of the Faculty of Arts, said that only preliminary discussions have taken place. “There will be another meeting after Eid in which some issues may be raised, but nothing has been decided yet,” he told Prothom Alo.
Speaking on the overall matter, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Abdus Salam said such meetings are held every year before the commencement of the entrance examination.
“There were only preliminary discussions on how the entrance exams for the new academic year could be conducted and whether any new elements should be introduced. It is more like routine work than anything extraordinary,” he said.
