The University Grants Commission (UGC) has approved a budget of Taka 122.63 billion for the financial year 2023-2024 for itself and 53 public universities in the country.
The budget was approved at a UGC meeting on Sunday – where Taka 121.85 billion was allocated for universities and Taka 774.5 million for the UGC.
According to a UGC press release, the budget for public universities provided Tk 61.09 billion as revenue budget while Tk 60.76 billion was provided as development budget for 31 projects.
In the upcoming budget, the University of Dhaka (DU) will receive the highest revenue budget of Tk 8.54 billion. The UGC also approved the highest ever research budget for DU at Taka 150 million.
A total of 1.74 taka has been allocated for research by the UGC and public universities.
UGC Chairman Professor Qazi Shahidullah urged everyone to maintain austerity while spending the budget, make maximum use of the research budget allocated for the financial year 2023-2024 considering the current situation in the country.
