Mohammad Alamgir was answering questions from journalists at his office in Agargaon in the capital.

Responding to a question whether the increased activities of diplomats of various countries affect the functioning of the Election Commission ahead of the parliamentary elections, MD Alamgir Hussain said that the activities of the commission have nothing to do with it. He said that this is a political matter and diplomats are discussing with politicians and the commission is doing its job.

Responding to another question whether the Election Commission can take any initiative to invite the two big political parties for talks, MD Alamgir asserted that the Constitution clearly spells out the responsibilities of the Election Commission. According to the constitution, the responsibilities of the Election Commission are presidential elections, parliamentary elections, preparation of electoral rolls, delimitation of parliamentary constituencies and any other responsibility assigned to it by law.
