He said his party’s Standing Committee would meet on Monday and take a decision on the Election Commission’s letter.
Earlier on Thursday, Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal sent a semi-official letter to the BNP secretary general to attend a meeting to exchange views on the next national election.
The current Election Commission under Awal held two rounds of talks with political parties since its formation last year. However, the BNP and some other political parties did not participate in the talks.
Fakhrul questioned the rationale of the Election Commission negotiating with political parties when it does not have the power to control the administration to ensure a credible election.
