At present, farm-grown chicken eggs are being sold at 12.5 to 13 taka in local markets. The prices of eggs have been rising continuously in the last two years, so much so that the price per egg has reached 15 taka. According to the state-owned Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB), egg prices ranged from 7 to 7.5 taka in January 2021.
Responding to a question on the possible prices of eggs imported from India, Saifur Rehman said that the price of two pairs of eggs in India’s West Bengal, Haryana, Hyderabad and Andhra Pradesh is Rs 18-22. To this will be added transportation and other costs “We hope that we will be able to sell two pairs of eggs at 36-40 taka.”
If it becomes possible to open the LC and complete other processes soon, it will be possible to import eggs from India, he said.
