EID UL AZHA being celebrated

Dhaka News wishes EID Mubarak to all of its readers and well wishers. The holy Eid-ul-Azha, the second biggest religious festival of the Muslims, is going to be celebrated across the country today with due solemnity and religious fervour. On this day, the 10th of Zilhajj some 4,000 years ago,
Prophet Ibrahim (AS) offered to sacrifice his beloved son Hazrat
Ismail (AS) who willingly submitted to the will of his father to
please Allah. But the Almighty in His benign mercy spared Ismail
(AS) and instead sent a ram to be sacrificed.

To commemorate this historic event, the Muslims all over the
world slaughter sacrificial animals and draw inspiration from the
unique example of sacrifice to please Allah as shown by two great
prophets — Hazrat Ibrahim (AS) and Hazrat Ismail (AS).

All preparations have been completed for celebrating the
festival in a befitting manner.

The day’s programme will begin with the offering of Eid
prayers by millions of Muslims at mosques and eidgahs throughout
the country.

They will seek divine blessings of Almighty Allah for peace,
progress and prosperity of the country and welfare of the Muslim
Ummah. They will also visit the graves of their near and dear
ones to pray for eternal peace of the departed souls.

The prayers will be followed by sacrificing animals.

On the occasion, President Zillur Rahman and Prime Minister
Sheikh Hasina greeted the countrymen through separate messages.

Leaders of other political parties and socio-cultural
organizations also greeted the people on the occasion.

In his message, the President called upon all to reflect the
spirit of sacrifice of Eid-ul-Azha in their thoughts and deeds
for building a peaceful and tolerant society.

He hoped that unity, solidarity and brotherhood of the Muslim
Ummah would be further strengthened on the occasion of the second
biggest festival of the Muslims.

“Love and obedience to Almighty Allah, shown by Prophet
Hazrat Ibrahim (AS) taking the initiative of sacrificing his most
beloved son Hazrat Ismail (AS), will remain a unique example for
humankind to follow,” he added.

The Prime Minister in her message said the unique sacrifice
of Hazrat Ibrahim (AS) in the name of Almighty Allah for His
satisfaction would ever remain an example for mankind to follow.

“Through the festival, the capable Muslims ensure equality
for all and practise tolerance by distributing meats of the
sacrificial animals among relatives and neighbours,” she said.

Sheikh Hasina called upon the countrymen to build a
discrimination-free happy and prosperous Bangladesh by
participating in people-oriented activities as well as realizing
the essence of Eid-ul-Azha.

The enormous pressure of people as well as traffic on the
overcrowded capital city has eased as a three-day Eid holiday
began today.

Millions of people, who will celebrate Eid in the
countryside, have already left the capital for their homes to
join the near and dear ones.

Bangladesh Railway, Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation
(BRTC), Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) and
numerous private sector transport operators have pressed
different modes of vehicles into service to cope with extra load
of home-bound passengers.
