Voting for the 13th national parliament election and referendum will take place on Thursday.
Meanwhile, it is being claimed on social media platforms that the government has announced a week-long lockdown across the country for the elections. Fact-checking shows that these claims have no factual basis.
False claims of lockdown are most spread on TikTok.
Many posts reuse footage from television news reports and misrepresent them as recent announcements with captions such as “Special government announcement for the election” and “Announcement of special restrictions for the election.”
A TikTok account claims, “The nationwide lockdown will begin tomorrow, Wednesday, at 6:00 am and will last for a week.”
Another claims, “Lockdown starts from tomorrow for a week,” with the caption, “Special announcement of government lockdown during elections.”
