Ambassador Haas said Russia has shown the world that it will hold energy infrastructure hostage to achieve its powerful objectives.
“Therefore, all countries should develop a plan to strengthen their energy security based on a diverse portfolio of resources,” he said.
Haas said Bangladesh is fortunate in its domestic supply of natural gas.
“I'm proud to say that American businesses have played a vital role in allowing Bangladesh to access those resources to drive its remarkable economic growth over the past two decades,” he said.
Although Bangladesh may soon find more gas in new locations, Haas said, they too will eventually run out.
“Renewable and clean energy resources are key to this energy transition for Bangladesh, South Asia and the world,” he said.
Finding ways to harness solar, wind, hydropower, hydrogen and other energy sources is the path to energy security and is essential to support continued economic growth and sustainable development.
