Domestic servants are not aware of this simply because the relevant government departments and local government agencies failed to fulfill the duties they were entrusted with.
There are many non-governmental development organizations in our country and they could have played a role in this matter as well. But, they seem to be more inclined towards ‘profitable’ projects.
It is unacceptable that under the rule of a government which constantly trumpets its massive development in the field of human resource, the domestic workers will lead an inhuman and degrading life. Their right to minimum basic needs as a human being and working environment should be ensured.
With the aim of sustainable development, the government has announced the SDG programme. The main goal of the SDGs is to leave no one behind. But, leaving hundreds of thousands of domestic workers in inhuman conditions, this is impossible and there seems no need to explain it.
Let’s hope, sooner rather than later, the government will take effective steps to implement the safety and welfare policy of domestic workers.
