EU ‘concerned’ about political violence in Bangladesh

Dozens of people were injured in clashes during BNP anti-government protests in parts of Bangladesh on Saturday. The rivals blamed each other for the latest bout of political violence with the next general election less than a year away.

Opposition workers clashed with police and members of the ruling Awami League in Jamalpur, Jashore, Natour, Narayanganj and Sirajganj.

The BNP organized a march to protest against price hikes for electricity, gas and farm equipment, and demanded the release of party leaders and activists from prison.
