EU plans to fine companies for breaking sanctions against Russia

Breaking sanctions on Russia is already a criminal offense in some EU countries, but in other countries it is considered an administrative offense and penalties vary across the bloc.

“There are still too many gaps between member states when it comes to punishment for breaches of EU sanctions,” Justice Commissioner Didier Reynders said in a statement, adding that the proposed rules would bring clarity.
