EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell stressed that “Gaza needs more aid than any approach”.
“Water, fuel, food. This aid is available, at the border and waiting to arrive,” he said.
The Israeli military is stepping up its campaign aimed at destroying the Islamist movement, which it says has killed at least 1,200 people, mostly civilians, in the country’s worst-ever attack by gunmen. And about 240 were taken hostage.
But Israel faces intense international pressure to reduce civilian suffering amid its massive air and ground operation that Hamas officials say has killed 11,180 people, including 4,609 children.
Israel said 44 of its soldiers were killed in the Gaza attack.
Luxembourg’s Foreign Minister Jean Asselborn said Gaza’s hospitals should not be turned into “warzones”.
“Patients who are in intensive care units don’t have a chance,” he said.
“There is no oxygen, no water, no more.
