“Everyone wants participative, peaceful and fair elections and it is in everyone’s interest,” he said.

Qazi Awal said that it would be better if foreign observers monitor the elections.

Regarding the use of EVMs, he said that the uncertainty over the use of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in the upcoming national election is yet to end as the project is yet to be approved.

The Election Commission (EC) has decided to use EVMs in 150 out of 300 constituencies in the next general election, ignoring objections raised by BNP and several other political parties over the use of EVMs. The Election Commission has also decided to buy 200,000 new EVMs at a cost of about 90 billion taka.
