EVM (Electronic Voting Machine) has created controversy. The election commission is interested to use EVM in the next general election. Ruling AL is happy with that but BNP thinks traditional manual system should be followed.
EVM has created controversy around the world also. Even more sophisticated EVM was criticized in the US.
It is said that EVM is easy to temper. Experts also saying that if the authority fails to protect EMV, it is in the wrong hand, then anything may happen. And no paper ballot will be used if EVM is used. So vote recounting is not possible.
But the election commission thinks general election is a costly process, EVM will reduce the cost of paper and vote counting will be done electronically. So, early declaration of results will be possible.
Yesterday CEC again talked about their plan to use EVM in the next general election when a delegation of diploma engineers demonstrated EVCCM (Electronic Vote Casting and Counting Machine) at the election commission secretariat. They were trying to prove their machine to be more reliable than BUET’s EVM. But the CEC suggested them to improve more and pointed some faults of the machine.
