“We are saying that we want to reward our cricket fans and cricket lovers in the US, which is a huge market.
“Then we want to drive curiosity and hopefully start a bigger conversation at a community level about sport and its benefits,” he added.
Along with the host nation, Ireland, Sri Lanka, South Africa, Netherlands, Bangladesh and Canada will also play the United States.
Although there is no dearth of interest, the organizers still have a lot to do to create the necessary facilities and infrastructure for the global tournament.
Lauderhill, just outside Fort Lauderdale, already plays host to international cricket matches but is undergoing a significant upgrade.
Grand Prairie was opened last year as the venue for the new domestic tournament, Major League Cricket, but is also being expanded for the tournament.
“We still have a lot of work to do to ensure we can provide access to our cricket fans,” Jones said.
“We want to show people that in a sports-mad country that demands entertainment, cricket is a great entertainment product,” he said.
The tournament will begin on June 1 with the match between USA and Canada in Texas.
USA vice-captain Aaron Jones says he hopes the team's performance will inspire young people starting out in the sport.
“We want to show everyone in the world that America can be a cricket country and a role model for the kids coming up,” he said.
