The plot to murder Jhenaidah-4 MLA Anwarul Azim was hatched in a car in Kolkata in January this year. The killers planned to throw the body into a sewerage canal in Kolkata after the murder on January 18.
However, the plan failed as Anwarul left for Kolkata on January 19 instead of January 18. So Akhtaruzzaman called him to Kolkata in May for business reasons to execute the plan.
Anwarul Azim was killed in Kolkata on May 13. The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) received the full details of the murder, from planning to execution, from information received from the Kolkata Police and information provided by those arrested in both countries during interrogation, travel records and analysis of digital records (evidence).
The investigators briefed the top police officials about the entire incident, stating that Akhtaruzzaman alias Shaheen is a friend of Anwarul. Both of them have a gold business in Kolkata. However, there was a dispute between the two friends over money transactions in their business.
