Biplab Kumar Mohonta, deputy director of the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), Kurigram, said that due to the cold weather, planting of boro in the 6,500 hectare seed area has been delayed. He cautioned that temperatures below 13 degrees Celsius could cause seedy leaves to turn yellow.
The DAE has already advised farmers to take additional measures to protect their seedbeds from damage.
Bangladesh’s agriculture ministry has issued guidelines for farmers in several districts affected by the cold wave, including Rangpur, Rajshahi, Pabna, Naugaon, Chuadanga, Kushtia, Dinajpur and Panchgarh.
