The fire that broke out at a foam-manufacturing factory in Dhaka’s Kadamtali area this evening has been brought under control after two and a half hours.
The firefighters brought the blaze under control around 9:05pm, Anwarul Islam, inspector (media cell) of Fire Service and Civil Defence, told The Daily Star.
The fire broke out around 6:30pm at the factory in the Saddam Market area, said Rozina Akter, duty officer at the Fire Service and Civil Defence Control Room.
On information, six fire engines rushed to the spot and started working to bring the blaze under control.
The cause of the fire and the extent of the losses from it could not be known immediately.
Speaking to reporters at the scene, Fire Service and Civil Defence Assistant Director (Dhaka) Kazi Nazmuzzaman said the fire is initially believed to have originated from an electrical short circuit.
However, the actual cause of the fire and the extent of the damage will be determined after an investigation, the fire service official added.
