Several shops with tin roofs and a rickshaw garage caught fire in Old Dhaka’s Gandaria.
According to the fire service, four fire tenders from Sutrapur and Postogola were rushed to the spot after the incident was reported in the early hours of Sunday.
According to Fire Service Control Room official Rakibul Hasan, it took emergency crews half an hour to douse the fire. But by then 10 plastic and junk shops including the garage had been gutted.
According to Rakibul, the incident caused an estimated 500,000 taka in damage, but no casualties were reported.
Officials could not immediately identify the cause of the fire.
