Speaking to Prothom Alo, Deputy Assistant Director of Fire Services Dhaka Zone-3 Shafikul Islam said that the fire started near the stairs on the 7th floor. As a result, many people were trapped inside the building due to the risk of trying to descend the stairs amid the flames.
He said the probe committee would give more details at an official press conference on Monday.
Rehan Uddin, the security guard of the building, said that the electricity and gas connection of the building is yet to start.
Firefighters rescued 22 people alive from the building, including 17 women.
