First aid boat evacuated in Gaza amid new ceasefire proposal by Hamas

The United Nations has repeatedly warned of impending famine, as only a fraction of the supplies needed to feed Gaza's 2.4 million people are being allowed to arrive.

With the entry of less aid trucks by road, relief efforts by air and sea have increased manifold. Cyprus, the nearest EU member state to Gaza, also said a second, larger aid ship was being prepared.

“God willing, they will bring food for the children, that's all we want,” displaced Gazan Abu Issa Ibrahim Filfil told AFPTV.

Hamas' October 7 attack resulted in about 1,160 deaths in Israel, mostly civilians, according to an AFP tabulation of official figures.

Israel's retaliatory campaign against Hamas has killed at least 31,490 people in Gaza, according to the health ministry, the majority of whom are women and children.

The ministry on Thursday accused Israeli troops of opening fire with “tanks and helicopters” as Palestinians waited for aid at an intersection in Gaza City, killing 20 and wounding dozens. The Israeli army has denied firing on the crowd.

A military statement said, “Armed Palestinians opened fire as Gaza civilians waited for the aid convoy to arrive,” and then “continued firing as the Gaza crowd began looting trucks”. .
