Five army soldier and BGB personnel killed in an accidental explosion

armyAt least two army soldiers and three BGB (Border Guard Bangladesh) men were killed in a mortar shell explosion at around 12:00 pm today. The mortar shell was 53 kilogram in weight and 82 millimeter in diameter.

The deceased soldiers are Manjur, Perveez Abu Sufian, Anwar Hossain and Mohammad Ali. About 247 members from Bangladesh army and BGB were doing firing practice as part of winter exercise at the training field of nineteenth infantry division located at Maydharchala area under Ghatail upazila of Tangail district. Eleven others were injured and taken to hospital. Seven of them have flown to Combined Military Hospital at Dhaka Cantonment by helicopter. Among the injured eleven nine are soldiers, one is warrant officer and one is commissioned officer.

Details of the incident are not disclosed yet, Inter-Service Public Relations (ISPR) director, Shaheenul Islam comfirmed the death of five security personnel and said they are taking necessary steps.
