Foreign citizens in Bangladesh: visa crackdown and database creation

Chaired by Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister Tofajzal Hussain Mia, the meeting saw the participation of Acting Chairman Lokman Hussain Mia, as well as secretaries of line ministries and departments and other high-ranking officials.

During the meeting, the Special Branch (SB) of the police informed that as of December 31, a total of 107,167 foreign nationals were living in Bangladesh, entering the country under four visa categories.

Of those, 10,485 foreign nationals arrived on business and investment class visas, some 14,399 on employment visas, 6,827 on education visas, and 75,456 on tourism and other visas. The largest group among these was Indian nationals, whose total number was 37,464, followed by Chinese nationals at 11,404.
