DN-mobile-operatorFifteen percent value added tax (VAT) charged to mobile phone users for any service. This amount is deducted automatically from consumer’s account. But question is where this money goes? Is this money going to the government fund? Moreover there are allegations that mobile phone operators are involved in illegal voice over internet protocol operation.

Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) appointed audit firms were not accepted by some mobile phone operators. This issue is taken to the High Court also. Banglalink rejected first audit firm appointed by BTRC. Grameenphone raised some question against a audit firm. The case is pending. Another case was filed by an audit firm and court said BTRC didn’t act in lawful way.

In this situation BTRC has decided to appoint foreign audit firm to conduct audit for the mobile phone operators, by doing this they are trying to avoid legal disputes.
