Foreign remittance flow declined

Though global economic downturn is over, foreign remittance flow in Bangladesh is decreasing day by day. The main cause is due to a decrease in manpower export and due to the return of many Bangladeshi workers abroad. In comparison to 2009 in the 1st 9 months of this year manpower export is reduced to 20 per cent.

According to the respective ministry this is due to global economic recession. According to manpower exporters, this is due to the fact that larger foreign markets are currently closed, mainly middle-east and Malaysia.

The respective authorities of the government didn’t take initiative to diversify the market. However, the government is optimistic that manpower export will increase in the later months.

In the last September remittance was Tk. 129 crore 59 lac. but this September the remittance is Tk.824 crore 29 lac. which is Tk.305 crore  lower than that of the previous year.
