The FIR in the Ripon murder case states that on the morning of August 5, 2024, armed assailants from the now banned Awami League, banned Chhatra League and Jubo League attacked DIT Market intersection in Sadarghat in Kotwali area of Dhaka during an anti-discrimination student movement programme. Ripon was shot in the neck during the incident.
He later died during treatment on the night of 5 August at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases and Hospital. After this, Ripon’s wife filed a case of murder in the Kotwali police station.
Former secretary Jahangir Alam is currently in jail in several cases.
