Dhaka University (DU) authorities have named four eminent academicians as emeritus professors at the university.
They are former DU vice-chancellors Prof Anwarullah Chowdhury and Prof AFM Yusuf Haider, former science faculty dean Prof Tajmeri SA Islam, and former pharmacy faculty dean Prof Choudhury Mahmood Hasan.
Rafiqul Islam Panna, acting director of DU Public Relations Office, confirmed the development to The Daily Star today.
According to university sources, the university syndicate made the decision following a recommendation from the Academic Council.
As per the appointment, the four academics will remain attached to their respective departments as emeritus professors. They will provide advice on their academic disciplines as well as on the overall development of education, research, and innovative activities at the university.
They will be entitled to the facilities they enjoyed as professors before retirement, except for university housing. In addition, they will be able to use the university library for research and publications, receive secretarial support, and avail themselves of the university’s medical facilities.
