Bangladesh railway has been ignored for many years. The road networks spread, but railway stopped many trains, rail stations due to shortage for drivers, locomotives (rail engine). There were very little projects to maintain rail tracks.
But now railway is trying to change the situation. There are some ongoing projects which may increase its capacity.
Yesterday four locomotives imported form Korea were added to railway. Railway director general Abu Taher inaugurated those. Top railway officials were present there. One of the new locomotives was added to Suborno Express which travels between Dhaka and Chittagong. The director general said, more five locomotives will be added in the next month and 300 meter gage coaches are being repaired now, which will be added soon.
Railway was very popular here because of cheap fair and safety. It was peoples demand to take projects which will renovate railway.
Delay is almost synonymous to railway now. People will expect with these new locomotives railway will maintain its schedule.
