Prominent left-leaning Renaissance MP Sacha Holli has said he will vote against the law and called on others to follow it, with some sources saying about 30 pro-Macron MPs will do so.

In a sign of the seriousness of the situation, Macron called a meeting of his ruling party at the Elysee Palace ahead of the vote, party sources told AFP.

According to a participant in the meeting, Macron said that if the bill is passed only with the help of the votes of Le Pen’s RN, he will submit it for a new reading instead of promulgating it.

Health Minister Aurelien Rousseau, Higher Education Minister Sylvie Retailleau and Housing Minister Patrice Vergite met Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne and warned they could resign, sources told AFP.

“The majority has stood together, the far right’s plan has failed,” Born said on social media platform X after the vote.

According to a ministerial source who confirmed a report by the daily Le Figaro, Rousseau submitted a letter of resignation to Born on Tuesday evening, who did not say whether she would accept it.

Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin, an ambitious 41-year-old who has spearheaded the legislation, warned on Sunday that Le Pen risks winning the 2027 presidential election if the bill is not passed.
