French police fire tear gas on the Champs Elysees in Paris as fans celebrate France and Morocco’s victory at the World Cup, sending them through to the semi-finals of the tournament.
Thousands of supporters filled the famous Paris avenue shortly after the match between Morocco and Portugal, chanting, waving flags and honking their horns amid a large police deployment. More joined them after France’s victory against England.
Reuters TV footage showed people vandalizing shops and fighting with police. Some fires can also be seen on the Avenue de Friedland near the Champs Elysees.
