Fulgazi upazila chairman Ekramul Haque Ekram was burnt to death as miscreants torched his vehicle in Academy area of the district town on Tuesday.
Police said a group of miscreants swooped on the car carrying the ruling Awami League-backed UZ chairman Ekram in the area at about 11:15am and forced his driver out of the vehicle.
The miscreants later torched the vehicle with Ekram inside, leaving him dead on the spot.
Later, police and locals recovered the chairman’s charred body.
The attackers also chopped the car driver with sharp weapons at that time, leaving him injured.
