German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has decided to send Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine and allow other countries such as Poland to do the same, while the US can supply Abrams tanks, the magazine Spiegel reported on Tuesday.
A government spokesman declined to comment. The Defense Ministry was not immediately available for comment.
Spiegel said the decision concerned at least one company of Leopard 2A6 tanks that would be provided from Bundeswehr stocks.
Other allies in Scandinavia, for example, intend to side with Germany in supplying their Leopard tanks to Kyiv, the magazine reported.
According to the magazine, in the long term, more tanks may be restored to be fit for use.
