Google introduces AI-generated answers in search results

Research firm Gartner estimates that web traffic from search engines will reduce by 25 percent by 2026 due to the use of AI bots.

Google rejected suggestions that ChatGPT-style AI interactions could affect its business, which depends almost exclusively on advertising sales from its search engine.

“We've found that with AI overviews, people use search more, and are more satisfied with their results,” Reed said.

“You can ask your most complex questions all at once, taking into account all the nuances and caveats.”

The company said such generative AI tools are making life easier for users, whether they are looking for yoga studios open on Sunday, planning a trip or preparing meals with special dietary requirements.

According to Reed, the company will also soon begin testing applying AI to searches based on video content as a query source.

For example, it will allow users to ask Google to diagnose a broken device by filming a broken device with their smartphone and get suggestions for fixing it.
