Government has no plans to make new arrests: Obaidul Quader

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Qadir said that the government has no plans to make new arrests, adding that law enforcement agencies are arresting those involved in vandalism, arson and weapons to investigate properly. And are facing murder cases.

The Awami League general secretary made this comment when journalists asked him about the arrest of over a hundred leaders and workers who concentrated on the BNP rally in Dhaka today, Wednesday.

He also said that apart from those accused in criminal cases, no one from the BNP was being arrested.

Obaidul Quader spoke to reporters after paying tribute to Sheikh Russell, the youngest son of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mojibur Rahman, at the Banani cemetery in the capital on Wednesday on the occasion of his 60th birth anniversary.

When reporters asked about the elections, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said the next elections would be held according to the constitution under the Independent Election Commission.

He said that if someone does not participate in the elections which will be conducted in accordance with the Constitution, then the elections will not be stopped.
